Council Projects

2021-2022

SAC Representatives work on projects through the Fall and Winter semesters in groups of 4-6. These projects require collaboration with students, faculty, and administration as well as adequate research. The following project summaries are from the most recent year and represent both the purpose and the focus of the project.

Campus Accessibility

College Parents

July 16, 2021 02:07 PM
Our group is working on making resources more easily accessible to students with children by creating a new BYU webpage. This webpage will list community, federal, and BYU resources. We are also working on proposing a project to expand current resources for students with children.

Dating Safety

July 16, 2021 02:07 PM
We have had the opportunity to meet with students and research the importance of safe dating on and around BYU campus. Our primary stakeholder is Tiffany Turley from the Title IX office. We plan to meet with representatives from other universities in Utah to create an online training module that will promote safe dating on our campus. Our goal is that through this informative online training, we can promote education and awareness of the severity and importance of the issue.

Faculty and Student Connections

July 16, 2021 02:07 PM
Our team is evaluating how student and faculty connections improve student confidence and academic performance. We are looking to see what more can be done to help students create individual relationships with faculty. Currently those relationships come from students reaching out and making an effort to get additional opportunities and help. We want to know if there is more BYU could do as a whole to promote connections. By learning about faculty outside of the class and seeing them in a different light we want to change the culture.

Mental Health

Student Financial Empowerment

July 16, 2021 02:07 PM
We have learned a lot in taking on student financial empowerment as a team this semester. We got a solid number of people to respond to our survey and have analyzed the results. We found that tuition and housing payments are two of the biggest concerns for students at BYU. We have met with and since been in close contact with one of our stakeholders, Paul Conrad. He has been guiding us on potential projects to take on that have to do with the Financial Fitness Center. Paul is the director of the Financial Fitness Center. Paul seems most concerned that his office is below the radar of students and many of our ideas revolve around helping the FFC become a more household name among students. On Tuesday, we will be doing our focus group and have already finalized our questions for the students that participate. We feel confident that once we have a dialogue with students on some of our areas of interest, we should be able to nail down a specific plan and attack it.

Misc

July 16, 2021 02:07 PM
The miscellaneous team is made up of students representing various groups on campus working to continue the projects previously presented by the Student Advisory Council. This school year, we aim to provide people all across campus with access to free feminine hygiene supplies, help students learn of the resources and opportunities available to them, and advertise the BYU voice boxes. We will be meeting with various stakeholders and continue researching to best help all students on campus.
