BYUSA Involvement Opportunities for 2024-25

Come get involved with YOUR student association.

BYUSA is here to inspire BYU students to create lasting connections, foster an inclusive campus, cultivate skills and talents, and live with integrity. Its all about students serving their fellow students. We do this by providing Christ-centered leadership opportunities and creating meaningful student-focused experiences.

The primary responsibility of BYUSA officers (President, Executive Vice President, Vice Presidents, and Directors) is to facilitate the Christ-centered leadership opportunities for other students. They seek to create relatable opportunities for student engagement, encourage personal growth, teamwork, appreciation, & leadership experiences for individual volunteers, & communicate opportunities to the student body.

The planning, creation, and implementation of the various programs, projects, events, and other student experiences is led by volunteer team leads and committee members. They work to create experiences which will lift, serve, impact, inspire, and meet the wholistic needs of the current student body.

Learn more about the various positions in the information below or by reviewing the Guide to BYUSA. Links to applications for open position follow.

About the various BYUSA involvement opportunities

The five main functions of the presidency are:

    1. To provide the association with vision and administration

    2. To develop and teach organizational guidelines and procedures which assist the association in accomplishing its mission

    3. To budget and monitor the association’s use of funds

    5. To determine programs and activities which the association will provide during its administration

  • There are five Vice President positions in BYUSA. Each serves as a member of the BYUSA Presidency (with the President and EVP) and are responsible for the fullfillment of presidency responsibilities for BYUSA and the specific service conducted in their area of BYUSA.

These students serve an average of fifteen hours per week through the Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter semesters. Vice President's receive a full tuition scholarship and a leadership scholarship during the Fall and Winter semesters.

Information on eligibility, position requirements, & the application process for these Officer positions for the 2024-25 school year are found in the BYUSA Officer Handbook 2024.

BYUSA Area Vice President selection begins in early March, following the BYUSA Elections. The interview and selection process is conducted by the newly elected President and EVP, in conjunction with the SCL Directors and Coordinators.

Applications for those interested in the Vice President position must be completed by 8am the Monday following elections, when the newly elected President and EVP will begin their review process. No late applications will be accepted.

  • Each Vice President, including the Executive Vice President, has Directors to assist in their efforts to develop Christ-centered leaders. Directors are primarily responsible for facilitating the service experience of the volunteer leads and committee members they oversee. This means recruiting, training, and guiding these other volunteers through the processes and procedures they must know to be successful.

These students serve an average of ten hours per week through the Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter semesters. Directors receive a leadership scholarship during the Fall and Winter semesters.

Information on eligibility, position requirements, & the application process for these Officer positions for the 2024-25 school year are found in the BYUSA Officer Handbook 2024.

BYUSA Area Director selection begins in early Winter Semester. The interview and selection process is conducted by the current Area Vice President in conjunction with the Area Coordinator.

In the event that a Director position is still open, or becomes open by a selected Director being selected as a Vice President, the newly selected Vice President will join the selection process for the remaining Director positions.

The application remains open until filled.

These responsibilities include things like: marketing, food, decorations, entertainment, games, research, risk management, or any other element the project may need.

Committee members average between one to three hours a week during the planning cycle of the project. For some projects this may be a few months, for some it may last they year. The size of each committee will vary based on the needs of the project.

  • On the Officer application, will indicating interest in Director and Vice President affect my chances for consideration for the other?

    - If you are selected as a Director but have indicated interest in a VP position you will still be interviewed and considered for the VP position as well.

    - If you are only interested in a VP position there is no negative or penalty of any kind for not also indicating interest in a Director position.

Why has the timing and process for BYUSA officer selection changed?

    1) To allow students to better compare the BYUSA leadership opportunity to other options they consider for their summer and following school year

    2) To emphasize the role of the current presidency in building future leadership

    3) To adjust the recruitment timeline for BYUSA leaders to allow students to be in place and prepared for the new May intensive training schedule, which is being implemented in response to students desiring more flexibility throughout the rest of their spring/summer term

    4) To improve the flow of program planning across BYUSA years, allowing for more consistent and timely program planning
